DISCOVER THE COLUMBIA BASIN
Ancient movements of basalt, volcanic flows and Ice Age waters filled a massive area in what is now the Columbia Basin. Othello is located at the southern terminus of the Coulee Corridor National Scenic Byway. Explore the 150-mile Byway on State routes 17 and 155 en route to Omak, passing through 5 parks and 7 wildlife areas.

FROM RAILROAD STOP
TO ECONOMIC HUB
First settled by homesteaders, Othello grew as a stop on the fabled Milwaukee Road. The town was laid out by the railroad and evidence of the early days are alive in the Old Hotel that still stands near the tracks.
Just as railroad traffic was waning, a bold vision would make Othello into a new center of activity. The community grew as the network of dams harnessed the Columbia River to create the largest water reclamation project in our nation. Once again, Othello grew as people came here to build the irrigation canals that would turn arid land into rich and productive soil.
